Broads - guide to watertable and water resource management

Writer: Douglas Hobbs Douglas Hobbs

The Broads Authority have worked with the Environment Agency to develop a design guide to help interested farmers and landowners plan and implement watertable management strategies. The guide focusses on the typical policy, constraints, and opportunities for water supply, water level management and the permissions required for the restoration of degraded lowland peat within the boundary of the Broads National Park.

The Design Guide to Support Water Table and Water Resource Management in the Broads National Park is available for you to share and The Broads Authority have given permission for others to use the guide as they wish – only the introduction/context is specific to the Broads.

If interested, the Broads Authority have also made other resources available through the Broads Peat Initiative including links to two new short videos:

Restoring Grazing Marshes at Chestnut Farm: A video to discuss how landowners can manage their land in a way which benefits nature whilst continuing profitable farming operations.

Wetland Farming at the Horsey Estate | Paludiculture in the Broads National Park: This film shows the Horsey Estate and highlights the journey of exploring these novel crops, showcasing the environmental and potential economic benefits of wetland agriculture in the Broads.
