Please join us at the Defra Forum "Building opportunities for our lowland peat landscapes" - through which we are looking to bring together everyone supporting positive change in England’s lowland peatlands and develop a more ambitious community of delivery.
This event will be free to attend (including meals and accommodation) and will take place from lunchtime on Monday 25th November to lunchtime on Tuesday 26th November in Stone, Staffordshire.
It is essential that you register your interest in advance. More details on the programme and practical arrangements will follow for those who have registered.
The event will bring together existing and prospective partners working with Government across a range of projects to improve England's lowland peat - from habitat restoration to water management infrastructure - reflecting the major benefits that changes in these landscapes can bring to challenges such as carbon emissions, biodiversity, agricultural sustainability, and flood risk.
Building on these projects, the workshop aims to:
Recognise and celebrate progress to date
Share ways of working and findings from work across England’s lowland peat landscapes
Increase understanding of the breadth and depth of work taking place across England’s lowland peat landscapes
Break barriers in understanding, promote new ways of looking at the issues and opportunities
Facilitate development of new partnerships and collaborations
Consider ways to accelerate delivery on the ground.
Attendees will include those:
Delivering government schemes to improve lowland peat (e.g., NCPGS, Water Discovery Pilot, Small Infrastructure Pilot, Paludiculture Exploration Fund, Landscape Recovery);
Considering applying for future versions of these schemes;
Individuals/groups more widely engaged in improving these landscapes (e.g., water authorities, eNGOs, farming organisations, researchers).
We expect the event to be fully subscribed; if necessary, we may have to limit the number of attendees from any single organisation. This will be based on the information submitted in your Expression of Interest and will only be done in consultation with those affected.
